Recover Stronger with CBR Clinics!
If you’ve had or are planning to have ACL reconstruction surgery, your rehabilitation journey is crucial to getting best results and full recovery.
At CBR Clinics, post-operative ACL rehabilitation is one of our favourite protocols to deliver! Our approach blends evidence-based treatment with high-performance training to help you return to sport or everyday life, stronger and more confident.
Why Post-ACL Rehab Is Essential
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a key stabilizer in the knee, especially during cutting, pivoting, and sudden movements. After reconstruction surgery, a structured rehabilitation program helps to:
- Prevent re-injury or complications
- Restore mobility and flexibility
- Rebuild muscle strength and neuromuscular control
- Return safely to sport or active life
Our ACL Rehabilitation Program
Whilst the initial phases of your recovery can be done at any of our facilities, at some point you will be transferred to our gym at Elephant and Castle. The gym is part of the LSBU Active Sports Centre and it is designed for functional rehab and performance, featuring:
- Resistance machines and free weights
- Balance and agility tracks
- Plyometric and neuromuscular tools
- Olympic lifting stations for sports-specific conditioning
Unlike a standard physio room, this is a high-performance environment tailored to active recovery.
Evidence-Based Rehabilitation Plan
Unlike a standard physio room, this is a high-performance environment tailored to active recovery.
- Initial Recovery Phase: Swelling reduction, pain management, and gentle mobility
- Strength & Control Phase: Building strength, improving balance and coordination
- Power and Return-to-Sport Phase: Explosive training, movement re-education, sport-specific drills
- Injury Prevention Phase: Long-term conditioning to reduce the risk of future ACL injuries
Progress is guided by clinical milestones and objective assessments, not fixed timelines.

Frequently Asked Questions About ACL Reconstruction Rehabilitation
How soon should I start rehab after ACL surgery?
Rehabilitation typically begins within the first week after surgery. Early intervention is essential to manage swelling, restore range of motion, and prevent muscle atrophy. At CBR Clinics, we start with gentle strengthening and progress safely based on best guidelines, respecting the healing process.
How long does ACL rehab take?
The full rehabilitation process usually takes 6 to 9 months, though it can vary depending on the individual and their goals. Athletes aiming to return to high-level sports may require up to a year. We tailor your programme to your needs, sport, and recovery progress.
Do I need to be an athlete to benefit from your ACL rehab programme?
Not at all. While we work with athletes, our ACL rehab is designed for anyone recovering from ACL surgery, whether you’re returning to competitive sport, recreational activity, or simply want to walk confidently again.
Will I have a personalised rehab plan?
Yes. Every patient receives a bespoke rehabilitation programme, guided by objective assessments and your personal goals. Our expert team adjusts your plan as you progress, ensuring you’re always moving forward safely.
Can you help me get back to sport?
Absolutely. Our return-to-sport protocols include sport-specific drills, reactive strength testing, and injury prevention training. We work closely with you to restore not just physical capacity but also confidence in your knee.
Do I need a referral to start rehab with you?
No referral is needed. If you’ve had ACL surgery, or are preparing for it, you can book a consultation directly with our team.
