Add-On Techniques

Add-On Techniques

The therapists that work at CBR Clinics are highly trained and have years of experience. Therefore, the treatments done at our Waterloo and Canary Wharf clinics can be a combination of techniques. Below are some commonly used techniques:

The Emmett Technique

The Emmett Technique is a ground-breaking manual therapy that works through a sequence of switch and holding moves on critical points, helping reduce pain and discomfort and restore mobility. It is still being developed by Ross Emmett over in Australia, where he’s been perfecting the technique for the last 20 years. It’s come to the UK in the last few years and is rapidly becoming very popular. The most remarkable features of this treatment are:

  • Instant change on your pain levels
  • As a result, less visits are necessary
  • Light pressure used

There are no contra-indications to this treatment, and works very well with pregnancy.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture originated in China over 5000 years ago. It’s based on the belief that health is determined by a balanced flow of chi, the vital life energy present in all living organisms. According to acupuncture theory, chi circulates in the body along twelve major pathways, called meridians, each linked to specific internal organs and organ systems. By inserting very fine, sterile single-use needles at specific points along the meridians, your acupuncturist can redirect and reposition the flow of energy (chi) for the purpose of relieving tension, stress, and pain. The uninterrupted and balanced flow of energy along these meridians contributes to one’s overall health. However, blockages and imbalances result in pain and illness.

The most common use for acupuncture is pain relief. Most commonly back pain. However, acupuncture can be used to treat nearly all sources of muscle and joint pain. We find that acupuncture can provide great relief for neck pain, headaches, shoulder pain, elbow pain, hand and wrist pain, back pain, hip and leg pain, knee pain, ankle pain and fibromyalgia.

We offer Acupuncture at our Waterloo and Southwark SE1 clinic as an add-on to a standard Physiotherapy or Osteopathy treatment. Please book in for one of the two and request Acupuncture.

Shiatsu Massage

Shiatsu Massage is a chinese/japanese type of massage done over clothing which helps bring a deep sense of relaxation to the receipient. It follows the chinese meridian lines and over the centuries it’s been mashed up between the chinese and japanese through different techniques. Today, it is a massage of intense relaxation which can help with the following symptoms:

  • Stress
  • Headaches
  • Neck Pain
  • Shoulder Pain
  • Lower Back Pain
  • Insomnia
Bowen Technique
The Bowen Technique is a very light treatment which works mainly on muscle (fascia). The fascia is a very thin layer of connective tissues that connects and controls muscles, being equally responsible for your posture and the way we hold our spine. Bowen can change the way the muscles and fascia work together, helping your body to adopt a better position. This fascia work creates a long-lasting effect on body alignment and any painful symptoms from many acute or chronic conditions.

Results can be seen in as little as one session, but for problems that have been there for a longer period of time a few sessions might be needed to rectify the problem.

Great results have been seen when treating the following conditions:

  • Lower Back Pain (including in pregnancy)
  • Sports Injuries & Prevention
  • Shoulder Problems (including frozen shoulder)
  • Sciatic Pain
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Neck Pain
  • RSI & Carpal Tunnel
  • Asthma
Cranial Osteopathy
Cranial Osteopathy care throughout the pregnancy provides women with the special benefit of adjusting the mother’s body to cope with the increasing demands of the pregnancy. It helps to alleviate some of the pains and problems associated with changes in posture, weight bearing, and the stretching of various ligaments and tissues that support the pelvis and uterus. It prepares the body for labour and helps the woman recover from the traumas and strains imposed during the birth process.

Lower back pain is one of the most common symptom experienced at some point during pregnancy. However it can be very manageable. It is normally caused by alignment issues in posture caused by the baby’s weight. It is to the mother-to-be’s benefit to have an Osteopathic assessment.

We also advise that babies and mothers should be checked by a Cranial Osteopath after certain births, such as:

  • Long labour
  • Very short labour (less than 4 hours)
  • Atypical delivery including forceps, ventouse/ vacuum
  • Caesarian birth
  • Multiple pregnancy
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM9) is an innovative range of tool which enables clinicians to specifically locate and treat soft tissue dysfunction. IASTM is performed with ergonomically designed instruments that detect and treat fascial restrictions, encourage blood supply and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis, chronic inflammation, or degeneration.

What our clients say…

3 doctors mis-diagnosed me with RSI (including a private hand ‘expert’)… CBR diagnosed me correctly as having neck issues before I even arrived – just from my description of symptoms… I just hope I remember to go to a Physio first before a doctor when I next get pains in my joints.

I have been having treatment at CBR Clinics for over 3 months now and I can honestly say that it is one of the best investments in myself I have made. I have had a bad back for a long period which stems from lots of sport and the office job. After seeing Lyndsy Mills my back has recovered and mornings tend to be much easier 🙂 I would recommend to friends, family and work colleagues.

I’ve been going to CBR for a few years now and have been treated by three of their staff in that time – all great, especially Bruno. I love the fact you can book online and they’re open late most nights and around on thr weekend too. My current treatment is under Nick who specialises in headaches from which I suffer, not just treating the pain but trying to get me to a position where I don’t have to visit too often. How many osteos do that?
